From Farm to Vase: How Our CEO Ensures Flower Quality Firsthand

Staying closely connected to where our flowers are grown is a big part of how we ensure consistent quality. That’s why we travel twice a year to the flower farms in Colombia, gaining a firsthand look at the fields, growing conditions, and the care behind every stem before it reaches our shops. In January, Tom Royer, President & CEO, and his daughter Brooke Royer traveled to meet with our growers and tour their farms, strengthening relationships and ensuring our quality standards are met at every step.

“These trips allow us to build strong relationships with our growers and stay directly involved in the process from farm to florist,” said Tom Royer. “Our January visit is especially important as we prepare for the Valentine’s Day season, helping us confirm that the flowers selected for the holiday meet our expectations for freshness, size, and overall quality.”

While there, we spend time with our trusted farm partners, floral suppliers, and most importantly the teams who nurture the crops, manage harvesting and inspection, and prepare flowers for shipment. Strong partnerships like these keep communication open, expectations aligned, and quality consistent from harvest through delivery. It also helps us uphold the high standards our customers expect and deserve in every arrangement.

On the farms, we get hands-on with the flowers from start to finish. In the greenhouses, we check the growing conditions and ensure everything conforms to our standards. After the roses are harvested, we inspect the crop to ensure they weren’t picked too early, the heads are the right size and color, and the quality is just right. We also watch as the flowers are carefully packaged, ensuring every stem meets our expectations before being shipped back to Pennsylvania and eventually out to our stores.

By making these visits part of our yearly routine, we’re able to confidently stand behind every flower we sell and the arrangements we create. It’s all about ensuring that when our flowers arrive in our shops, they’re as fresh, beautiful, and reliable as possible.
